Spam, Interrupted

Yeehaw! After almost a full year of amateur web-designing (at Lean-Forward), slightly above average HTML / PHP coding, and suggestive  message- / comment-leaving, I’m finally *somebody* on the Internet. How so, you ask? Well, after almost a year at my domain, my blog has finally been noticed.

By spammers. By a spammer. By a crazy spammer.

It’s not like it’s the first time I’ve been spammed - my old blog got spammed mildly once. Apparently the spammers wanted to sell viagra to me. Perhaps they thought I needed a better libido? Let me rephrase that. Perhaps they thought I needed a better libido? Ask any ex-girlfriend of Vickie, you’d know that the last thing you want to do is to have me excited in any way. Okay, I’ve only had one girlfriend.

Anyhow, I checked my email as usual the first thing this morning. I think I went and made coffee after I logged in, and almost spilt it all over the keyboard when I came back. 150 emails, all comments for my different blog entries…

Good thing there’s a Mass Edit Mode in Wordpress. 150 spam comments should only take 15 times of mass-deleting, 10 at a time. I actually found myself giggling while I was deleting the comments. 150 spam comments on a half-dead blog that hardly anyone visited. That online casino sure was desperate.

Nevertheless, something didn’t feel right. One, two, three… I’ve definitely mass-deleted more than ten times, but there are still new spam comments in the queue. It couldn’t be… And it was. My blog was in the process of being spammed, and I witnessed it. It wasn’t funny any more. 0.0

Thank god I came across AuthImage way before the horror. I was able to set it up in less than fifteen minutes, and it worked like a charm - the crazy spamming stopped immediately. I only found one or two wee problems in the plugin (mainly the image not updating when it should), but otherwise I’d highly recommend it (until the spammers found their way through this).

Oh well, that was a rather long entry explaining why you’d need to enter a code should you want to comment on my blog. Please do comment. Please? Hello? Anyone out there? *echoes*

It is an interesting plugin, but you know there is any easier way. I use two plugins that work hand in hand. I don’t remember their name’s off the top of my head but they work really well. I haven’t had any spam since. It’s a shame you don’t get much traffic, I love your site, it’s very unique and well needed on the net. I’d love to be affiliates with you, just say the word.

Thanks for the recommendation. Perhaps I’ll start using it. I’m getting a bit of spam here and there. I once had an episode very much like yours but I didn’t realize spamming was happening before my eyes until several minutes in when I realized I still had 100 spam comments. Very annoying. I just waited for the plague to pass and then went ahead and deleted.

:) It’s been a while since I’ve been here and I must say, I adore this layout. ^___^
