My Utter Close-Mindedness

People! Please listen to me! “Definately” is definitely not the proper spelling of definitely; “mispelling” is a misspelling; “alot” is the mistake a lot of people make; you never do something “for awhile” for a while; “could of”, “would of” and “should of” should have been could have, would have and should have; “alright” is not all right; “anyways” should not be used in any way, anyway! Ugh! Separate; grammar; embarrass. Their, thief; believe, receive; quite, quiet… Informality is awesome; but no!
Eh, but who am I, really? *activates self-defence mechanism*

November 8, 2006 at 2:51 am
LOL, I used to spell definitely ‘definately’ until someone corrected me on it. xP Your blog was interesting. LOL
November 10, 2006 at 7:47 am
Wow, you and I would get along very well! I’m giving your blog a standing ovation. *applause*
November 10, 2006 at 10:46 am

November 10, 2006 at 11:16 pm
Grammar Nazis?? hehehe
well informality is awesome!
hehehe i always say alright!
November 10, 2006 at 11:50 pm
LOL, this is amusing. you left out one that I see all the time which is “you’re”. I see too many times people typing your instead of you’re! Nice read.
November 11, 2006 at 1:03 am
The sad thing is, thanks to the Internet, no one will actually remember how to spell these simple things properly soon.
Hopefully you gave some people a clue.
November 11, 2006 at 1:40 am
I love you for stating the obvious!
November 11, 2006 at 1:51 am
I misspell all the time. And I mean all the time. Especially the word definitely (is that right?). I know the correct spelling, I just misspell it when I type fast. *eez an idiot*
November 11, 2006 at 2:53 pm
Wow your so funny
Wow you are so funny
Haha, nice read ^.^
“thief” or “theif”?
November 12, 2006 at 9:15 am
I correct people all the time. Not in English - but in Danish. I spot a typo right away and I just can’t keep quiet.
November 13, 2006 at 6:42 am
Oh, I think I just learned something!
November 13, 2006 at 11:17 am
It’s not like I want to misspell but I have this problem of typing too fast *checks errors* Even in pronunciations I correct others. I also couldn’t bear to see mistakes. It’s what we call imperfection. Everyone wants to be perfect
November 13, 2006 at 12:59 pm
Guilty as charged >.>;;
November 13, 2006 at 11:34 pm
ahaha .. not to mention “your so cool!” .. “their was this guy that told me so” … and “please bring youre stuff tomorrow”
rofl!
November 14, 2006 at 12:13 pm
FINALLY! Someone decides to speak up about all the nnoying grammatical mistakes I am seeing everywhere!
November 15, 2006 at 10:05 am
ROFL! I’m like that too, hahaha…I can’t stand it whenever people make grammatical or spelling errors (unless English is not the first language they speak of course).
November 15, 2006 at 5:47 pm
OMG. I especially hate “could of”. I guess people spell words according to what they hear. “Could’ve” sounds like “could of”. Tsk tsk.
November 15, 2006 at 10:27 pm
*applauds*
Good that I’m not the only one who notices things like this. People usually tell me that I have no say as I’m not a native speaker, but come on…I knew the obvious difference among “there”, “they’re” and “their” when I first started learning English.
Oh, well, what can you do when those peoples dont liek grammer
(The last paragraph was obviously the way it was on purpose;))
November 17, 2006 at 10:41 pm
hia there!
whoa that’s hilarious but it’s true! last school year, we took that up in english and it’s really fun haha. “a history” is right, “an history” s wrong. and would you believe that people actually uses your for you’re?? haha. that’s funny.

I got you in the rotation for the second time in a row and there was no other entry in the meantime…so, yes, I second what I said above:p
November 19, 2006 at 9:27 am
Common spelling mistakes, I make them everyday.
November 20, 2006 at 3:03 pm
Waaah o_o That is crazy. Nerd
I’m such a horrible speller though.. So. runs*
There’s this grammar article in the newspaper I get every Friday. It’s pretty awesome to read, but I don’t remember everything on it.
November 21, 2006 at 2:54 am
I’ve already commented here once, but I still love this post!
November 21, 2006 at 9:01 am
-Headache-
That was nice, though.
Sorry I’m late (Exentrique commenting). Life is really hectic and I just got my computer fixed.
November 21, 2006 at 9:42 pm
I think ive done all of those before.
. im such a bad speller. or sometimes i dont care, cause im usually writing to my friends… hmmm… i wonder if my english teacher ever corrected me for those types of errors… i wonder if she even knows… ohh well .lol
have a good week
November 22, 2006 at 6:28 pm
And just because you’re wired doesn’t mean you’re weird! It also doesn’t make you ridiculas.
Seriously, though, when it comes to the internet (blogs, mbs) people are often typing very rapidly and so it is quite understandable.
November 23, 2006 at 6:10 am
I’m a pretty good speller, but I’m sure I’ve done that before, I used to spell separate as seperate…until my Chemistry teacher corrected me. Anyway, my car got saran wrapped and on the typed not it said “Hope your not running late” and I was just like idiot, “I hope you’re able to pass English.”
November 25, 2006 at 4:58 am
Woooh I love grammar. I used to bug my friends about saying “anyways”. I said it wasn’t a word because it didn’t show up as one on Microsoft Word, and it wasn’t in my dictionaries. Apparently now it’s in both!
November 25, 2006 at 5:02 am
I always bug my friend when she misspells something. This is especially when she’s trying to be high superior of me and yell at me over AIM. It bothers me as well. I’m more of a comma person myself though. Comma over usage and under usage drives me completely insane.
November 25, 2006 at 6:33 am
hey thanks for the comment, and we’re all influenced by the media. actually, in some ways, if you try to avoid influence, you tend to acknowledge what you’re trying to avoid more. therefore you do start thinking in the way you dread. well this is true for some people anyway…anyways (mischevious grin). but it’s good you can admit that you’re at least in a minimal way influence by it, i mean.. it influences anyone whether we like it or not
aha, and this entry is just really funny. if i had to type out one simillar to this, i’d probably be proof reading it for 2 days looking for spelling and grammar mistakes which is why i just dont care
as long as i dont use the missspellings (yes i did that on purpose) and miss-gramar-ing in essays!
November 25, 2006 at 11:19 am
Alright is acceptable, but maybe in less formal settings.
November 25, 2006 at 7:32 pm
True; hence the “informality” statement.
November 27, 2006 at 2:57 am
Ok. I’ll keep that in mind.. ?
November 27, 2006 at 5:40 am
Ha. I’m on my boyfriend’s arse about this stuff a lot. He’s usually saying something like, “I seen them the other day.” I’m trying to train him, but it’s a long process.
November 28, 2006 at 6:47 am
I’m not very good at grammer I have to admit. Although I do correct people sometimes.
November 28, 2006 at 9:40 am
Thanks for the comment :]
Eek, I hate when people get the ‘their, there and they’re’ mixed up. Oh well, no one’s perfect hehe
November 28, 2006 at 9:44 am
*looks at list* Yep, I have definitely made some of those mistakes before. I’m so glad the new Firefox has spell check. :3
November 28, 2006 at 11:00 am
Wow youre really nitpicky arent ya?
. Do you want to edit my essays? Since I suck at writing essays and I have no grammar (or is it grammer) whatsoever. Or is it what so ever.
November 30, 2006 at 1:47 am
Haha, I nitpick on a lot of grammar related things too. What annoys me the most is when I see someone use your instead of you’re and vice versa. It gets harder to read.
English is not my first language but a good thing to use is of course “i before e except after c” - eh heh.
November 30, 2006 at 1:47 pm
wow. intesnse. yea i totally analize words and it all seems like some sort of conspiracy. its so insane.
December 2, 2006 at 7:29 am
I have an excuse, I type fast and my spelling has always been terrible. I will try harder to perfect my spelling, I promise.
December 3, 2006 at 7:41 am
I’m a grammar nazi too, but sometimes I make mistakes.
December 6, 2006 at 4:32 pm
Ummm…you’re right about that. I’m used to people who makes mistake like that.
anyway…I think we need more dictionaries in the net. Don’t you think so?
December 19, 2006 at 6:27 pm
‘Anyways’ exists in the dictionary. Not all blogs are meant to be formal.
The rest of the misspellings.. agreed.
