A Moron, Almost
posted on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 @ 11:16 pm
Just woke up from a 5-hour nap but didn’t feel recovered at all from extreme lethargy due to PMS, didn’t spot that the baby was 4.5 months early or pick up the general tone of the blog, misread the word “obituary” as “orbitary” from a protected link…
If it weren’t for the 3 comments before me, I would have completely not noticed and written a congratulations comment.
A very close one. I almost offended a whole family and more…

Erm… What?

Key word here, I believe, would be “almost”
There’s a bright side to close to everything, right?
For some reason this reminds me of a typo I made once, trying to say “public relations” and left the ‘l’ out of “public” … oi.
Yeah, yay for almosts

Hmm, the post probably does need a bit of annotation for those who may have arrived here in a similar mental state.
Basically, I went to a blog of a woman who said she just had a baby girl that was 4.5 months early. She went on and described the physical appearance of the baby. At the end of the short entry, there was a non-clickable URL with the word “obituary” in it, which I misread as “orbitary” thinking it was some sort of obscure username for an online photo album… which was a password-protected site when I tried to visit the link.
I almost didn’t notice that the woman in fact lost her baby, and almost posted a congratulations comment on her blog.
Yes, yay for almosts…

Oh I get like that way too often. PMS is a kicker for me, to say the least, and pain medication doesn’t seem to be able to do anything for me. As for sleep, I sleep so sporadically that it kills my internal clock. I’m up all night and most of the morning, and then dead to the world all day. It’s been like that for a while, but I’ve always seemed to be able to get myself out of it, but not these days. Maybe it has something to do with summer. Good luck!

Wow that’s incredibly sad.

Haha, thanks for your very nice comment. It made me laugh.
Oh my gosh… that would have been a scandal. I would feel so bad if I found out after I actually commented.

Oh no! Well at least the mistake was caught!

I hate being lethargic. And I know how it is to take a nap during that time and wake up still groggy, bleh!

Yikes… if you did congratulate them, that would’ve had a sour ending.
You might’ve even ended up getting seriously flamed or a ton of hatemails.
They may have NEVER spoken to you again.
Good thing for previous comments.
They might’ve thought you were being SARCASTIC, at the worst moment.
Well yeah.
Yikes.

Whoo that would not have been good. Good thing for previous commentors. I too like to scan previous comments to make sure I got the right gist of a blog. Makes a lot of sense really. I hope you get some more relaxing rest soon.

Hi Vickie (again)… I already commented on this blog post, but I’ll write again for Despair. Your layout is awesome, and I love how the character seems to be jumping out of the screen.

That would have sucked if you didn’t catch it. I’m glad you did though, otherwise it would have been offensive and embarrassing.

I feel bad for the family and I am really happy you noticed the mistake before you posted your comment at her website.

Thanks for commenting Vickie! Yes, I believe mum taught you a few years ago at BH. What a coincidence! Hope you’re having fun in Sydney - when do you finish your degree?

Oh, I’ve very nearly done things like that before…at least you caught your mistake before you hit submit!
