Happy 22nd Birthday, Bro!

posted on Monday, May 5, 2008 @ 4:36 pm

Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday, dear no-longer-little Little Brother Jacky!
Happy Birthday to youuuuu!

This is also probably Hong Kong’s most mis-sung song. And the lyrics are copyrighted? Outrageous! I’m so ignoring that.

Later, Vickie gets sued.

Happy Birthday to your brother from Boston, MA–USA–

I watched a movie called Corporation where they touched on the topic of the copyright of Happy B-Day and instead of using the song they filmed a B-Day party where you could see people singing but couldn’t hear them..I think it’s like 13,000 dollars to use..not sure..

I won’t tell anyone you were singing!!

Oh, pass along the wishes for me. I had no idea people sung “Happy Birthday” incorrectly. What’s wrong with how they sing it?

Happy birthday to your bro! =) by the way ( on your previous entry : I’m just curious about that game is it an international RPG game? )

@Christina: Hong Kong people sing “Happy Birthday to <name>” on the third line. Not grammatically incorrect or anything way off, but that’s not the proper lyrics.

@Nina: Guild Wars is an international “competitive online RPG”. Anybody can play with anyone from anywhere in the world! No subscription fee, too! :)

Your brother is so lucky to have such a caring sister. I wouldn’t sing Happy Birthday to mine on my blog haha. But then again he wouldn’t come around to read it so it would have been a waste of space anyway lol .

Huh?!? The birthday song is copyrighted?!?

Then again, it is the world’s most sung song. So … heheh.

Wishing your brother a very Happy Birthday, with many good returns ahead!

    Copyrighted? Interesting.

Are the melody or the lyrics copyrighted, because in Finland, we sing the translated version? Or both?

In which case, is singing in, say, a class considered public performance, hence sorta-kinda illegal?
