If you’re the average Guild Wars gamer who’s English-speaking, white, male, straight, young, doesn’t have a disability and so on, the worst insults that get thrown at you are probably the N word, “fag” or “gay”, and you’d probably go, “Whatevs! I’m not even black / gay.” and move on with your day.

If you’re like the rest of us, particularly those of us who run around with a Chinese character name but are absolutely and obviously not a bot or gold farmer, it’s not uncommon to encounter personal attacks from racists, even in the supposed safety of our own PVE district (Asia – Traditional Chinese).

3 months ago, I had these two Warriors in the Traditional Chinese district of Leviathan Pits, that came doing the taunt, point, shoo and laugh emotes as soon as I mapped in. Bear in mind that players have the complete freedom and choice to travel between any districts of the same area — their intentions were clear.

The exchange they probably expected:

What happened in reality:

What can I say? I’m a fast typist. You’d think that my “excuse me” would tip them off, too. Way to unintentionally pwn your own friend-in-crime.

As if failing like that wasn’t embarrassing enough, though, one of them then said:

Which is horrible Spanish, according to a friend’s friend who speaks Spanish. Why am I not surprised that it translates so well into English in an online translator?

But that’s not all! When I asked them if they’re aware that they’re in the Traditional Chinese district, they added a bold declaration that would make Freud proud!

(Adrian Victoria is my friend who’s actually also American.)

And then I reported them. Sadly, a few days off Guild Wars during the weekdays likely had little effect on them.

Oh look, it’s not just English-speaking players who would “accidentally” land in the Traditional Chinese district and “accidentally” type out loud, either.

And they’re only the milder racists in PVE.

You have no idea what it’s like to PVP if you have a Chinese name.

Call for Aidan/Zho Fanfic and/or Porn

Aidan and Zho first met possibly in Kaineng Center, standing just within earshot of each other. There was no evidence of them interacting then and they went on separate ways later on, one off to befriend the Luxons and the other the Kurzicks.

A few years later, however, on our trips to various lands with tall folks who think we’re tiny, tiny folks who think we’re smelly, and smelly folks who are usually our enemies, Aidan and Zho got closer.

And closer.

And even closer.

And then? When we finally saved the world from the Great Destroyer, Aidan and Zho decided to ~~break up~~ stand in separate groups outside their aggro bubbles, as if they never knew each other.

When asked, Aidan said:

Me? Aidan! What have I ever done for you? No, no, no. What have I ever done with you? I’ve never even had you in a party by choice! What about Zho, Aidan? What about Zho?!

That day, the rare romantic fangirl in me died.

The closest Aidan/Zho fan effort I’ve found so far is this YouTube video: Guild Wars – from Ascalon. This unofficial GW wiki discussion thread also cracked me up. But fellow Guild Wars players, do we not know how to write ~~porn~~ fanfiction?

ArenaNet, there’d better be Aidan/Zho offspring or descendants in Guild Wars 2, or I’ll… cry!

In other news, I should be studying for tomorrow’s exam.

Death of Yet Another Survivor

This is a mini tribute to my brother’s Guild Wars Survivor (1) Monk, 智源, who recently died in the ending cinematic in the Vizunah Square mission, because someone else on the other team didn’t skip it — which is not that player’s fault, you know, because cutscenes are made to be watched.

Rest in peace, 智源.

Stolen Background Music?

My brother alerted me to this first, but “The Storm Warriors” (風雲II), the upcoming sequel to a semi-popular Hong Kong movie, is using the first 22 or so seconds of the Guild Wars theme song on their official website. For a movie with a HK$100 million budget, you’d expect them to compose their own music (unless, of course, they bought the copyright to the song / had permission otherwise)!

Fresh off the screen and out of the /Screens folder! The two lady gamer friends I made from a forum for lesbian gamers. Hotness!

The two of them are from some crazy time zone from the past so it’s actually already really late / early for them. Here, Mon (Acro) fell asleep. For the fifteenth time. And so totally going to be pushed down the slope by Sora and me in 3, 2, 1! ELE PUSH SPIKE!

We seriously need a ladies’ district in GW. Here’s proof:

A male Paragon wouldn’t stop bothering our Mon. I tried to stop him…

So we had to zone. We demand a ladies’ district! And a secret lesbian handshake! And a song! (Mon’s requests, but we second and third!)

Because nobody asked, here’s yet another mega Guild Wars screenshot-heavy post! Non-gamers or non-GW-gamers may completely ignore this. Edit: Also, I can’t stop editing and adding new pics to this post as I find them.

As of April 11th, 2008, accounts from the Taiwan / Hong Kong / Macau region have been moved to the US servers and are no longer isolated from the rest of the world. Now we have more travelling options than ever!

Zho lost her eye to a Black Moa while saving some pansy named Nehdukah, and had since developed a fear of the bird and all birds in general. Plagued by nightmares for years, she decided to tame the very beast in an attempt to overcome the fear, and ended up bringing up her own Black Moa chick and gradually recovered from the memories of the horrid accident.

I don’t recall any particular incident with any particular insect that caused my rather severe phobia of all and any insects. Now, maybe if I get a beetle for a pet, and maybe a caterpillar, and a grasshopper, and a moth, and a butterfly, and a scorpion, and a spider, and a cockroach, and a bee, and…

You know what? Never mind.

Yes, I like to speak of game NPCs like some real-life friends.
