Prologue

›› damn right, a prologue for an online autobiography

First of all, the name is Vickie. Not Vicky, not Vicki, not Vikki, not short for Victoria. It’s probably because people either never pronounce my name correctly (Fickie? Wickie? Who?), or were never able to spell it properly, that I became very fussy about the English spelling and pronunciation. My grammar sux0rz; but I’ll say I’m not doing too bad at all for a non-native speaker / writer. :P

Narcissistic Autobiography

›› but that’s only part of me

my lopsided smile* Now that we got my “issues” out of the way… Hi! My name is Vickie Diablos — Diablos being my online alias surname. I’m a 23-year-old, 5′ 4″ (164 cm), Chinese female from Hong Kong, currently overseas alone in University of Sydney doing her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, hoping one day to land a job in a hospital or some sort of health care settings. My birthday is November 28, 1984. Lookie, a new sentence just for my birthday. Hint, hint!

I’m a hopeless gamer (Age of Empires, Command & Conquer, Guild Wars, Lineage II, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Tenchu, Tomb Raider… I could list on forever); a butch-at-heart lesbian; a sex-positive and highly-sexed feminist; an atheist who was forced / tricked into Catholicism when she was young; a realistic optimist; a laid-back procrastination queen who literally procrastinates over everything; and generally a crazy and underachieved geek who loves to use run-on sentences, semi-colons and wordplay way too much. My blog entries reflect exactly the thoughts that go through my mind, although I tend to make myself sound a lot more interesting and popular than my real-life taciturn loner self. ;)

cam pic (August 2, 2006) I have a 22-year-old younger brother who grew up with me like extremely close friends. I adore my family even though we have very different beliefs and tastes. My favourite season is winter; favourite colour is blue; favourite music is classical and game music; favourite animals are dwarf hamsters and the Siberian Husky; favourite food, boiled dumplings! I have rather severe entomophobia: I’m terrified of insects of any species, any size, any number of legs, dead or alive. I don’t care about politics, fashion, media (outside games), celebrities or gossip. Instead of watching the news, you’re more likely to find me reading about the latest game release or downloading porn. Oops, hehe.

* Image may not fully represent actual person after she removes her make-up and puts on weight. Also, she likes the cam pic and uses it everywhere. :O

So You’re a Lesbian. Big Deal!

›› the comment I receive every now and then

I hate labels as much as you do, but they’re also unquestionably helpful. I don’t want to make a big deal out of my sexuality; I don’t think being a lesbian is cool or hip or make me any more unique than the next person, but I believe stating so would confuse less visitors as they read my blog, even if it means driving half of them away because of who I truly am.

I’m pretty open about all this, actually. If fate decided that I should end up with a man and have your typical family (and I have the strangest feeling that that’s going to happen), so be it. But right now, I’m only physically attracted to women and I’m completely comfortable with it.

Women who live the life of their dreams don’t get there by being dainty and darling. They demand what they want and do what it takes to make it happen. [That] could mean breaking a few rules, a few hearts and a few habits along the way, especially the habit of apologizing for who you are.

- Laurie Sue Brockway

I officially came out to the family after I broke up with an ex-girlfriend and broke down some time in 2003. The Mum is still trying to come to terms with the idea; the Dad seems more or less fine; the Bro is totally cool about it. But you know what? I’m currently happily single. Really. It’s possible.

Online Presence

›› my split personae

Gaming takes up a very big part of my life, hence the need to introduce you to my various online identities. :) Some of the screenshots below were taken on my older computers, so what the games’ graphics is really like (i.e. what I see on AMD Diablos now) is likely 1000 times more beautiful.

For added fun, throw my character names into online translators.

Jump to game: Lineage II | Guild Wars | Second Life

Lineage II (2004 - 2006)

Diablos - Lineage II; shown sitting on a throneName: 迪阿比羅斯
Game: Lineage II - Taiwanese Server 3
Class: Shillien Knight
Level: 66 (max=78 when I left the game)

My first ever online character in the first ever online game I played. The name isn’t very feminine at all (it’s actually the Chinese pronunciation of “Diablos”) and players constantly mistake me for a male player. The Shillien Knight was (is probably still) a really misunderstood and unpopular class, soloing was almost the only option. It was really hard to continue soloing after reaching level 61 in Chronicle 2, however, so I teamed up with other players till level 66, but stopped playing afterwards as dying multiple times daily for strangers was not fun. She used to belong to the alliance that held all the castles.

Ranko - Lineage II; shown being paralysed while casting a magicName: 亂子
Game: Lineage II - Taiwanese Server 3
Class: Elven Elder
Level: 63 (max=78 when I left the game)

It’s sad that people won’t believe you’re not a man playing as a woman (mangina) unless you’re a Light Elf, an Elven Elder more specifically. I really disliked Light Elves; but this character made so much money I played on till she reached level 63. Simply got tired of hearing men (and some “fellow” Light-Elf women) say how beautiful or cute I was when I played as her. She used to actively participate in “Festivals”. Oh, and Lineage II players may want to click and view this full screenshot taken in Chronicle 3…

Daphne - Lineage II; wearing bunny ears, fishing, head swollenName: 特妃
Game: Lineage II - Taiwanese Server 3
Class: Treasure Hunter
Level: 56 (max=78 when I left the game)

This lucky young lady (head swollen from fishing too much - don’t ask XD ) had all my love and attention among all her sisters (my other characters). She’d always had the best weapons and armour once available, also the first and only character to ever own a Strider, try fishing and wear bunny ears. It wasn’t easy to level up, though, as it’s almost impossible to solo without losing money with her class. See, my target was to reach level 60 before Chronicle 4, but she’s still stuck at level 56.

Guild Wars (2006 - present)

Account-Wide Titles: Unfavored (3), Lucky (2), Hero (1), Ally of the Luxons (4)

Naomi - Guild Wars; shown standing next to my Brother's Ranger characterName: 娜奧美
Game: Guild Wars
Class: Elementalist/varies (Monk in the pic)
Level: 20 (max)
Titles: I Have Many Leather-Bound Books (4), Legendary Guardian (1), Legendary Cartographer (1), Legendary Skill Hunter (1), Legendary Vanquisher (1), Legendary Spearmarshal (10), Expert Treasure Hunter (4), Devourer of Wisdom (4)

Born in early February, 2006; recently got 20 maxed titles, aiming for 27, may go for 30 if I’m crazy. I’m mostly a PVE player, have all towns and outposts except Vizunah local; but also play in RA, AB and HA under the names “Naomi Diabla” (PVP Mesmer), “Naomi Skosh” (PVP Assassin), “Naomi Noobcake” (PVP Monk) or “Naomi Wubs You” (random) occasionally. Friend me and chat or play together? :D P.S. Screenshot = very outdated.

Naomi the Necromancer - Guild Wars; shown sitting next to my mini Jade Armor that a guild member got meName: 死靈娜奧美
Game: Guild Wars
Class: Necromancer/varies (Mesmer in the pic)
Level: 20 (max)
Titles: Protector of Elona (1), Treasure Hunter (1)

Created roughly 8 months after my Ele; Necromancers are simply so much fun to play, even after mega nerfing. Minion Master, Death Magic, Blood Magic, Curses… everything is so awesome! She’s available if you ever need a somewhat hardcore MM, SV, SS, BiP (yawn), etc. in any (elite) missions.

Genki Naomi - Guild Wars; shown wearing her 15k Canthan setName: 元氣娜奧美
Game: Guild Wars
Class: Warrior/varies (Assassin in the pic)
Level: 20 (max)
Titles: Kind of a Big Deal (1), Advanced Treasure Hunter (3)

Fast becoming my second-most-played character, I actually only originally created this character to unlock skills for my heroes, but Warriors turned out to be not as boring and helpless as I’d expected the class to be. She’s the second character to achieve Kind of a Big Deal, earning Sunspear and Lightbringer titles even before my Ele. See also her semi-l33t Warrior collection (warning: image heavy).

Charcoaled Naomi - Guild WarsName: 炭燒娜奧美
Game: Guild Wars
Class: Ritualist/varies (Monk in the pic)
Level: 20 (max)
Titles: Adept Treasure Hunter (2)

Born significantly later than even my Necro and Warrior, she didn’t get much love in the beginning until I discovered how good silver-dyed armour looks on her skin tone. I’m so shallow. :P Ritualist is, in fact, a very strong profession, whether they take the offensive or defensive position — or both. She specialises in Channeling / Communing, has yet to complete Eye of the North; but mostly only goes “farming” these days. Also, I love the name I gave her. “Charcoaled Naomi”. Hehehe.

Naomi the Ranger - Guild WarsName: 遊俠娜奧美
Game: Guild Wars
Class: Ranger/varies (Paragon in the pic)
Level: 20 (max)
Titles: Survivor (1)

My fifth and last PVE character for now, I know this profession will be much more enjoyable if I didn’t decide to aim for the Survivor title. Sometimes I think I should just die once and play on happily ever after. Unhealthy thoughts! Whether I enjoy it or not, with Rangers’ survivability, I should be able to make it to Legendary Survivor one day… Maybe. I hope. Please?

Second Life (may login once in a while)

Naomi Skosh - Second LifeName: Naomi Skosh
Game: Second Life (free to play!)
Birthday: January 21st, 2007

It isn’t entirely correct to call Second Life a game. SL was basically a short-lived and pink-haired addiction I had back when I thought I’d exhausted what Guild Wars could give me (before Hard Mode was released); but even back then, all I ever seem to do was “camping”. I owned land, tried to build stuff but lacked the confidence and patience, made clothes but didn’t enjoy it, joined a few classes, discussions and games… Well, I guess at least I discovered that I’m not really as sex-crazed as the general SL population — which was really surprising, actually.
